Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - Meghan Markle reportedly had a memorable first reaction when Prince Harry took her to Clarence House, King Charles’ London residence away from Buckingham Palace.
According to Harry’s memoir Spare, Meghan “gasped” when they drove through the gates and saw the gardens, with Harry explaining that his father had designed them himself.
The residence has now taken on even greater significance. King Charles has confirmed that he and Queen Camilla will continue living at Clarence House even after the extensive refurbishment of Buckingham Palace is completed next year.
Buckingham Palace will remain the monarchy’s ceremonial and operational headquarters, but it will no longer be the King’s main home.
The revelation gives fresh context to Meghan’s early introduction to royal life and highlights just how different the monarchy’s private and public spaces can be.
With Harry and Meghan now back in the UK with their children, royal residences remain a closely watched part of their evolving relationship with the royal family.
