AARON SORKIN says he didn’t expect JESSE EISENBERG to turn down The Social Reckoning: ‘It’s infuriating’

Monday, October 5, 2026 - Aaron Sorkin has admitted he never expected Jesse Eisenberg to turn down the chance to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning.

The filmmaker said he spent three days trying to persuade Eisenberg to return for the follow-up to The Social Network, even preparing a detailed list of reasons why the actor should take the part. Sorkin said Eisenberg’s decision surprised him because he had assumed the actor would want to return.

Sorkin also revealed that a substantial financial offer failed to change Eisenberg’s mind. Joking that it was “infuriating,” he said money does not motivate the actor and may even be a “disincentive” for him.

Eisenberg ultimately remained firm, telling Sorkin that he no longer wanted to be associated with Zuckerberg, a character he first played in the 2010 film.

With Eisenberg stepping away, Jeremy Strong has taken over the role of Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, which is scheduled to hit theaters on October 9.

Sorkin has described the new film as a companion piece to The Social Network, shifting the focus from Facebook’s creation to the consequences and influence of the social media giant. The decision to move forward without Eisenberg adds another layer of interest as the highly anticipated film approaches its theatrical release.
