Paramount completes $111bn WBD merger

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - Paramount has completed its $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, creating a new Hollywood powerhouse operating under the Skydance name.

The deal closed on October 6, bringing major film studios, streaming platforms, television networks and news brands under one corporate roof.

The merger immediately reshapes the entertainment market, combining Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. with platforms including Paramount+ and HBO Max, alongside major brands such as CBS, CNN and HBO.

The new company is targeting at least $6 billion in annual cost savings within three years, while planning to expand its film and television output.

Attention now shifts to whether Skydance can successfully integrate the two giants while managing a huge debt burden and expected workforce changes.

With Netflix, Disney, Amazon and other technology-driven rivals fighting aggressively for audiences, the new company faces immediate pressure to turn its enormous library, franchises and streaming reach into sustainable growth.
