Friday, October 2, 2026 - Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to help end the war in Ukraine, saying Modi has “very good ideas” for finding a solution acceptable to the parties involved.
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin said Modi repeatedly raises the conflict during their meetings and remains interested in achieving a peaceful settlement.
Putin said India maintains a neutral position while actively supporting efforts to end the fighting. His comments follow recent talks with Modi, including their September meeting in New Delhi and an August meeting in Kyrgyzstan, where Modi said India supports peace efforts and called for an end to hostilities.
The remarks put fresh attention on India’s diplomatic engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv as international efforts to end the conflict continue.
Putin has also said that Russia is considering peace proposals while emphasizing that Moscow will take its own interests into account, meaning significant questions remain over how any potential settlement could be achieved.
