CHRIS BROWN housekeeper accepts reduced award for dog mauling

Friday, October 2, 2026 - Chris Brown’s former housekeeper, Maria Avila, has accepted a reduced $9.5 million award following a 2020 dog attack at the singer’s home in Tarzana, Los Angeles.

Avila initially received a $12.9 million jury award after a two-week trial in June, but a judge later ruled that the amount was excessive and gave her the choice of accepting the reduced figure or facing a new trial focused on damages.

Avila was attacked by Brown’s Caucasian Shepherd while working at the property, suffering serious injuries to her face and arm. During the trial, she described lasting scarring, pain and difficulties with movement following the attack.

Brown had admitted negligence under California’s dog-bite law while disputing the extent of Avila’s injuries and the amount of compensation awarded.

Avila’s decision brings the damages dispute to $9.5 million rather than sending that part of the case back to trial. The judge’s ruling did not overturn the underlying finding against Brown, and a separate $885,000 award to Avila’s sister, Patricia, remains intact.

The latest development closes another major stage in a case that has continued for years following the 2020 attack.
