Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of violating PUTIN’s Easter ceasefire

Monday, April 13, 2026-Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating a short-lived Easter ceasefire announced by Vladimir Putin, as fighting reportedly continued across multiple frontlines despite the temporary truce.

The 32-hour pause, intended to cover Orthodox Easter, quickly collapsed into competing claims of hundreds—and in some reports, thousands—of breaches, underscoring how fragile ceasefire efforts remain in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials said Russian forces continued drone strikes, shelling, and assault operations during the truce period, while Russian authorities accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out thousands of attacks on military positions and border regions.

Both sides presented sharply different figures, with Ukraine reporting widespread violations and Russia also claiming major breaches, making independent verification extremely difficult amid active combat conditions.

Despite the accusations, both governments acknowledged that some temporary reduction in large-scale airstrikes occurred during the truce window, though frontline clashes and drone warfare persisted.

The episode highlights the continuing mistrust between Kyiv and Moscow, where even limited humanitarian pauses are quickly overshadowed by renewed allegations of escalation, keeping hopes for a sustained ceasefire distant.
