Sunday, May 24, 2026- The death toll from the strike on a college dormitory in Starobilsk has risen to 21, according to Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry, which confirmed that search and rescue operations have now been completed at the site. Officials said all bodies have been recovered from the rubble following the attack on the educational facility in the Luhansk region.
Emergency authorities stated that 42 people were injured in the incident, with the final stage of recovery operations focusing on clearing debris and confirming there were no remaining survivors trapped beneath the collapsed sections of the building.
The ministry also said the situation at the site has been fully stabilized, allowing responders to formally end active search efforts after several days of continuous operations.
The strike has intensified already high tensions in the region, where cross-border attacks and drone warfare have escalated in recent weeks.
Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of targeting civilian infrastructure, while independent verification of battlefield claims remains limited due to restricted access in occupied territories. As investigations continue, the incident is expected to further deepen international concern over civilian safety in the conflict zone.
