Friday, October 2, 2026 - British counter-terrorism police have arrested a dual UK-Iranian national in London as part of an investigation into a suspected plot linked to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
The 25-year-old man was arrested in Westminster on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, while officers also searched two properties in the capital. Police said the investigation remains complex and that they are examining multiple lines of inquiry, including possible foreign-state involvement.
The arrest is the latest development after five British men in their 20s were detained near the airbase on September 27 following reports of suspicious vehicles. The five men were subsequently released on police bail and remain under investigation.
Police have confirmed that petrol was found in the vehicles but no improvised explosive device was discovered. A second British man, aged 26, has also been questioned under caution.
The investigation has attracted international attention because RAF Fairford has been used by US aircraft during operations against Iran. UK authorities are examining whether the incident had any connection to a foreign state, while Iran has denied involvement.
Police have stressed that the investigation is ongoing as they work to establish exactly what happened and whether anyone will face charges.
