Monday, September 28, 2026 - Sylvester Stallone is opening up about a tense moment with his father, Frank Stallone Sr., while filming the iconic 1976 drama Rocky.
Stallone had given his father a small role as the bell ringer during the climactic fight between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed, hoping the achievement would bring them closer. Instead, the filming day ended in what Stallone now describes as a “really nasty” altercation.
According to Stallone, his father failed to ring the bell at the carefully choreographed moment, allowing the fight to continue longer than planned. With Carl Weathers waiting for the cue and the scene falling out of rhythm, tensions quickly escalated.
Stallone recalled that the situation eventually became a “really bad Italian drama,” although he said that for a moment he believed his father might finally be proud of what he had accomplished.
The revelation comes as Stallone prepares to release his memoir The Steps, where he reflects more openly on his complicated relationship with his father. He described Frank Sr. as “very, very cold and tough” and recalled a difficult upbringing marked by explosive arguments and fear.
Despite their troubled relationship, Stallone said the two eventually shared a moment of love before his father died in 2011, adding another emotional layer to one of Hollywood’s most recognizable success stories.
