Monday, September 7, 2026 - Rob Reiner has been awarded a posthumous Emmy for his performance in The Bear, nearly nine months after his death.
The legendary actor and filmmaker won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for playing restaurant consultant Albert Schnurr in the fourth season of the FX series. The award was presented during the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where the announcement was met with a standing ovation.
The victory marks Reiner’s third Emmy Award and his first acting Emmy since 1978, when he won for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family.
His latest win also sets a new record for the longest gap between acting Emmy victories. Reiner died in December 2025 at the age of 78, making the honor a particularly emotional moment for those who worked with him and admired his career.
Reiner’s performance in The Bear has now become one of the final television highlights of his celebrated career. His win also makes him the first performer to receive a posthumous acting Emmy since Raul Julia in 1995.
The recognition comes as the 2026 Emmy season continues, with the main Primetime Emmy ceremony scheduled for September 14 and The Bear remaining among the major titles attracting attention this year.
