Monday, September 28, 2026 - Rebecca Gayheart has shared an emotional update on how she and her two daughters are coping seven months after the death of actor Eric Dane.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the Step Up 2026 Annual Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles, Gayheart said the family is “hanging in there” as they continue adjusting to life without Dane. Their daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, are also navigating the transition into high school during an especially difficult period.
Gayheart said staying close to her children has been central to getting through the hardest days. She explained that having her daughters under the same roof, along with support from friends and other loved ones, gives her comfort. “I think it’s definitely a challenging season, but we’re doing our best,” she said, adding that remaining connected to other people helps her process her emotions.
Dane, best known for Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, died on February 19 at the age of 53 after battling ALS.
Gayheart and Dane had separated in 2018 but remained closely connected as parents, and Gayheart was involved in his care during his illness. Seven months later, she is continuing to support their daughters while the family adjusts to his absence.
