Wednesday, September 2, 2026 - A major shake-up has hit the highly anticipated West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, with both Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande now out of the production.
Grande withdrew in August after announcing plans to step back from public-facing work following her Eternal Sunshine tour. Bailey has now followed, ending plans for the pair to reunite on stage after their recent Wicked collaboration.
Bailey said he made the decision after careful consideration while expressing strong support for Grande and director Marianne Elliott.
The production had been scheduled for the Barbican in summer 2027, with Bailey originally set to play George and Grande as Dot and Marie. Producers have confirmed that work on the musical will continue, with casting discussions already underway.
The double departure creates a major casting challenge but also opens the door for a fresh headline pairing to take over one of London’s most anticipated theatre projects.
The creative team is now reshaping the production around a new company while promising to preserve its artistic ambition. With both original stars gone, attention will quickly turn to who can step into the roles and keep the Barbican production firmly in the spotlight.
