Monday, September 21, 2026 - Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, did not attend her daughter’s memorial service in Malibu on Saturday, September 19, despite earlier reports that she had not been invited.
A source close to Vogel later said she was unable to attend because of a family emergency. Around 150 friends and relatives gathered to remember the actress, who died in August at age 36.
The private celebration of life brought together several of Panettiere’s former co-stars and close friends, including Connie Britton, Charles Esten, Paris Hilton, Evan Ross, Ruby Rose and others.
Britton and Esten delivered speeches, while Esten also performed one of Panettiere’s songs from Nashville. Her father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, attended the service, while Vogel’s absence drew renewed attention to the complicated relationship between mother and daughter.
Vogel had previously spoken publicly about her daughter’s death and the difficulties in their relationship, saying she wanted Hayden to be remembered for her talent, intelligence and personality.
The circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death remain under investigation, with her official cause and manner of death still pending. Her representatives have urged the public to allow investigators to complete the process before drawing conclusions.
