Monday, September 21, 2026 - Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist and backing vocalist of pop-punk band New Found Glory, has died at the age of 45.
Gilbert died peacefully in his sleep on September 20, surrounded by family and friends, with his wife and mother by his side. His death was confirmed by the band and his family.
Gilbert had spent several years battling cancer after first being diagnosed with a rare adrenal tumour in 2021. His health struggles continued into 2026, when he underwent emergency brain surgery after three tumours were discovered.
Despite his treatment, Gilbert continued making music and returned to the stage with New Found Glory in June, performing from a mobility scooter.
Gilbert helped shape New Found Glory for nearly three decades, contributing to more than a dozen albums and countless worldwide performances.
The band described his guitar playing, songwriting, humour and determination as central to its identity, while also remembering him as a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Lily, mother Jackie and brother Brian.
