Wednesday, September 23, 2026 - A central Blackpool street has officially been renamed Sir Ken Dodd Avenue in honour of the much-loved comedian.
Adelaide Street West, which runs from Bank Hey Street towards the Promenade beside Showtown, was unveiled under its new name on Monday, September 21, with Dodd’s widow, Anne, Lady Dodd, present for the ceremony.
The renaming followed a request from Showtown to Blackpool Council to recognise Dodd’s strong connection with the resort.
The museum, located directly on the newly named avenue, is currently hosting Happiness! The Ken Dodd Exhibition, featuring costumes, props, puppets, archive photographs, footage and material from Dodd’s personal collection.
The exhibition is open at Showtown until January 3, 2027, with the renamed avenue now providing a direct route for visitors to the museum from the Promenade.
Lady Dodd welcomed the tribute, while Showtown said the new street name creates a lasting recognition of Dodd’s contribution to Blackpool’s entertainment heritage.
