Wednesday, September 23, 2026 - Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have bought The Turf pub, the historic venue next to Wrexham AFC’s Racecourse Ground.
The purchase brings the football club, its stadium and the famous pub under the same ownership, with the owners saying the move is intended to protect the club’s future and preserve the venue’s heritage.
The Turf has a direct connection to Wrexham AFC, with the club founded at the then-named Turf Hotel in October 1864.
The pub has also become internationally recognised through the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, where it and landlord Wayne Jones have featured regularly. Jones will continue running the pub following the takeover.
Wrexham says the acquisition could also support improvements to the fan experience around matchdays, including opportunities to enhance the fan zone near The Turf.
For Reynolds and McElhenney, the deal adds another major piece of the Wrexham football operation while keeping one of the club’s most recognisable local landmarks closely connected to its future.
