Wednesday, July 15, 2026 - Zahara Jolie-Pitt has taken another step toward legally dropping her father Brad Pitt's surname
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the
21-year-old has completed one of California's legal requirements for a name
change by publishing notice of her petition in the Los Angeles Daily Journal
once a week for four consecutive weeks.
The notice informed the public of her request to change her
name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie and invited anyone
wishing to oppose the application to submit a written objection before the
final court hearing.
Zahara reportedly filed the petition in June, with the
required notices published on June 16, June 23, June 30 and July 7. A hearing
has been scheduled for September 28, when a judge is expected to decide on the
application if no objections are filed.
The move follows a similar legal process undertaken by her
sister, Shiloh, who officially dropped "Pitt" from her surname in
2024 after completing the same publication requirement. Other members of the
family, including Maddox and Vivienne, have also stopped publicly using the
Pitt surname in recent years.
A source close to Brad Pitt told TMZ they believe Angelina
Jolie is responsible for the strained relationship between the actor and his
children. "They believe Angelina has caused the rift between Brad and the
children, and this is just the latest chapter in the very sad and never-ending
campaign to alienate children from their father." If the court approves
the petition, Zahara will legally be known as Zahara Marley Jolie.
