Milan prosecutors investigate two Iranians over threats to dissidents

Friday, May 29, 2026-Italian prosecutors in Milan have launched a major investigation into two Iranian nationals accused of threatening dissidents opposed to the Tehran government.

Authorities say the suspects are being investigated for aggravated threats and possible terrorism-related offenses after several Iranian activists living in Italy reported intimidation, death threats, and psychological pressure linked to their political activities. The case has intensified concerns across Europe over growing efforts to silence critics of the Iranian regime beyond its borders.

According to judicial documents, one dissident reportedly received a phone call warning that she had been sentenced to death for supporting opposition movements and would lose her assets in Iran.

Investigators also linked one suspect to social media posts threatening supporters of exiled opposition figure Reza Pahlavi. Italian authorities ordered searches of the suspects’ homes as they continue examining possible connections to organized intimidation networks operating across Europe.

The Milan investigation reflects a wider security challenge facing European governments as threats against exiled dissidents, journalists, and activists continue rising. Analysts warn that cross-border intimidation campaigns are becoming more sophisticated, using online harassment, surveillance, and direct threats to pressure critics abroad.

As European nations strengthen counterterrorism and national security measures, the case is likely to increase diplomatic pressure on Iran while reigniting debate about the protection of political refugees and opposition communities living overseas.
