Man drives car full of explosives into building of Oregon airport

Monday, May 4, 2026-A man drove a car loaded with explosive materials into the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon, in the early hours of May 2, 2026.

The vehicle reportedly contained devices such as propane tanks and improvised explosives, and it crashed through the building’s entrance before catching fire. The driver was later found dead inside the vehicle, and authorities say at least some of the explosive devices detonated, causing significant structural damage to the club’s ground floor.

Investigators believe the suspect acted alone and may have been a former employee of the facility, with early reports pointing to possible grievances and mental health struggles. Police and federal agencies, including explosive ordnance teams, were deployed to secure the scene and continue examining what remains of the vehicle and devices.

No members or staff were injured because the club was not occupied at the time, but the damage is described as extensive, and the building has been closed indefinitely. Authorities are still working to determine the exact motive and the full scope of the explosive materials used.
