Eleven children killed, injured every 24 hours in Lebanon, UN says

Friday, May 29, 2026-The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the growing impact of conflict on children in Lebanon, reporting that an average of eleven children are being killed or injured every 24 hours.

The figures reflect a sharp deterioration in civilian safety as hostilities continue to affect communities across the country, particularly in areas close to active conflict zones. UN officials described the trend as a humanitarian emergency requiring immediate international attention and stronger protections for vulnerable populations.

According to the UN, children are increasingly bearing the consequences of ongoing violence through direct attacks, displacement, psychological trauma, and the destruction of essential services.

Schools, healthcare facilities, and community infrastructure have been disrupted, leaving many families without reliable access to education, medical care, or safe shelter. Humanitarian agencies warn that prolonged exposure to conflict is creating long-term risks for an entire generation of young people.

The report has renewed calls for all parties to respect international humanitarian law and take urgent measures to protect civilians. Aid organizations are also urging increased humanitarian access and support for affected families as needs continue to grow.

As the security situation remains unstable, the UN says preventing further harm to children must become a priority in any efforts aimed at reducing violence and restoring stability in Lebanon.
