TRUMP claims U.S. will close Strait of Hormuz after Iran peace talks collapse

Monday, April 13, 2026-Following the collapse of high-level negotiations between the United States and Iran in Pakistan, President Donald Trump has claimed that the U.S. will move to close or more precisely, blockade the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.

According to multiple reports, the announcement came shortly after talks ended without agreement, with key disputes centered on Iran’s nuclear program and control over maritime access through the strait.

U.S. officials said the proposed action would involve the Navy restricting or intercepting vessels linked to Iranian ports, a move framed by Washington as an effort to enforce compliance and restore free navigation.

The declaration immediately escalated global tensions, as the Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of global oil shipments and any disruption risks sharp spikes in energy prices.

Iran has reportedly warned that such a move would be treated as an act of war, raising fears of direct military confrontation following the breakdown of diplomacy. Analysts say the situation now sits at a critical turning point, where failed negotiations are rapidly giving way to maritime and military escalation.
