Day 43 of Middle East conflict — Marathon US-Iran talks in Pakistan

Monday, April 13, 2026-On Day 43 of the Middle East conflict, high-stakes diplomacy is now centered in Islamabad, where marathon negotiations between the United States and Iran are underway in a bid to stabilize a rapidly escalating war.

The talks hosted and facilitated by Pakistan bring together senior officials from both sides in what is being described as one of the most intensive diplomatic efforts since the conflict began.

The negotiations come after weeks of fighting that have already reshaped the region’s security landscape, with intermittent ceasefires, continued strikes, and rising regional tensions.

In Islamabad, delegations have been engaged in extended sessions lasting many hours, focusing on securing a durable ceasefire and addressing disputes over nuclear policy, maritime security, and regional military activity. However, reports indicate deep mistrust remains, with both sides entering talks under heavy political and strategic pressure.

Despite the lack of a breakthrough so far, diplomatic momentum has not collapsed. Pakistan has positioned itself as a key mediator, urging both Washington and Tehran to continue dialogue and avoid a return to full-scale escalation.

Officials involved in the process suggest that while immediate agreement is unlikely, the fact that direct talks are ongoing is itself a significant development in a conflict that has already stretched into its seventh week keeping the door open for a possible, if fragile, path toward de-escalation.
