ROTC students at Old Dominion University subdued and killed shooter who left 1 dead, 2 hurt



Saturday, March 14, 2026-A deadly shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk ended after several ROTC students intervened and subdued the gunman, officials said. 

The attacker opened fire near a campus area, leaving one person dead and two others injured before students enrolled in the university’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps stepped in. Authorities say the students confronted the suspect during the chaotic moments of the attack and ultimately stopped the threat before police arrived.

Witnesses described a frantic scene as students and staff rushed for safety while the gunman fired multiple shots. According to investigators, the ROTC students quickly reacted, restraining the suspect during the confrontation. 

The shooter later died during the struggle, though officials are still determining the exact circumstances of his death. Emergency responders transported the two injured victims to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.

University officials praised the quick thinking and bravery of the ROTC students, saying their actions likely prevented further loss of life. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the motive behind the attack while the campus community mourns the victim who lost their life. Counseling services and additional security measures have been put in place as the university works to support students and staff following the tragic incident.
