DJI will pay $30K to the man who accidentally hacked 7,000 Romo robovacs

Tuesday, March 10, 2026-Drone manufacturer DJI has announced it will pay a $30,000 reward to a cybersecurity researcher who accidentally discovered a vulnerability affecting thousands of Romo robotic vacuum devices. The researcher uncovered the issue while analyzing connected devices and realized the flaw could allow unauthorized access to roughly 7,000 units.

According to the company, the vulnerability could have allowed someone to remotely control the affected robovacs or access device data if exploited. Once the flaw was identified, the researcher reported the issue through DJI’s responsible disclosure program, allowing engineers to quickly investigate and fix the security weakness before it could be widely abused.

DJI praised the researcher for responsibly reporting the problem and helping protect customers. The company says the reward reflects its commitment to cybersecurity and highlights the growing importance of ethical hackers who identify and report vulnerabilities in connected technology before they can cause real damage.
