JOE AMABILE explains how 'The Bachelorette' is affecting his mindset after brain surgery

Sunday, August 30, 2026 - Joe Amabile is drawing on one of the biggest disappointments of his early reality-TV journey as he navigates a far more serious challenge.

The Bachelor Nation favorite, known as “Grocery Store Joe,” recently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor after doctors discovered a lesion during an MRI. Doctors successfully removed the entire tumor, and Amabile has since been diagnosed with a very low-grade astrocytoma.

Following the surgery, Amabile reflected on being eliminated from The Bachelorette on the first night when he was 30. At the time, he believed the rejection was one of the worst things that could happen to him.

Looking back at 40, he now sees that disappointment very differently. Amabile says the experience ultimately became one of the best things to happen to him, and he is using that perspective to approach his current health battle with the same determination.

Amabile is now focused on turning an incredibly difficult chapter into something positive. He has been open about his recovery and continues to share updates with fans, including his ongoing treatment and struggles with speech following surgery.

Despite the uncertainty ahead, his message remains firmly optimistic: rather than dwelling on what happened, he wants to focus on what comes next and find a way to make the experience meaningful.
