The surprising issue driving a wedge between TRUMP and his MAGA base

Monday, November 24, 2025 -
A sharp divide is forming within the MAGA movement as Donald Trump’s aggressive embrace of artificial intelligence clashes with growing unease among his core supporters.

While Trump is pushing for deregulation, championing tech investment, and exploring ways to block states from enforcing their own AI laws, some influential Republicans warn that his strategy risks leaving ordinary Americans behind.

Critics like Ron DeSantis, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Josh Hawley argue that unbridled AI growth could erode Trump’s populist appeal. They point to real concerns: automation threatening jobs, energy-hungry data centers driving up utility bills, and AI tools posing risks to children.

The rift highlights a deeper tension — Trump’s bid to court Silicon Valley may be at odds with the working-class voters who helped build his movement.

At the center of the dispute is Trump’s proposal to override state-level AI regulations, a move many Republicans view as a win for wealthy tech insiders but a betrayal of everyday Americans.

This internal conflict is intensifying just as Trump leans heavily into innovation, raising an urgent question for his movement: is his vision for America beginning to leave his grassroots supporters behind?
