Saturday, September 19, 2026 - British mother-of-two Nusrat Osman has been rescued after being kidnapped in Malawi, bringing an end to a six-day ordeal.
The 47-year-old was abducted in Blantyre on September 11 by four men who reportedly used a grey car. Malawi police confirmed that Osman was safely reunited with her family following an intelligence-led operation on Thursday.
The rescue operation involved an exchange of gunfire between police and the suspected kidnappers.
Police said the four suspects were armed with an AK-47 rifle and a pistol and were taken to hospital after being shot, where they later died from their injuries. Deputy Inspector General of Police Mlowoka Noel Kayira was also wounded during the operation and remains in a stable condition in hospital.
Osman, who originally came from Leicester and works for a local auditing firm, had been living in Malawi with her family. Authorities had offered a reward of about £13,000 for information that could help locate her, while the motive for the kidnapping remained unclear because the suspects had reportedly made no contact with her family.
Police said investigations are continuing as further details about the abduction and the suspects are established.
