Russia pounds Ukraine even as ZELENSKY aims to revive peace talks

Russia launched a massive barrage of drones and missiles against Ukrainian cities overnight — killing at least 10 people, destroying residential buildings, and targeting energy infrastructure.

These attacks come at a critical moment as President Volodymyr Zelensky travels to Turkey to meet President Erdogan in a bid to revive stalled peace negotiations. The toll and scale of the bombardment underscore that Russia’s war machine remains fully engaged even as diplomatic channels reopen.

Zelensky, speaking in Ankara, stressed that restoring diplomacy isn’t a sign of weakness — but a necessary step toward a “just peace.” He’s calling on Western allies to intensify pressure on Russia through tougher sanctions and stronger military backing, insisting that such support will tilt the balance toward genuine negotiations.

However, he also hinted at growing frustration: Ukraine has accused Moscow of using talks as a smokescreen to buy time and continue its relentless offensive.

The contradiction is stark: while Zelensky pushes hard for a diplomatic reset, Moscow appears committed to a dual strategy — pounding Ukraine on the battlefield even as it entertains the language of peace.

For Ukraine, the risk is existential. The world is watching: if diplomacy fails to restrain the violence, internal and external backing for Kyiv’s war effort may face serious tests. European and U.S. leaders now face a pressing question: can they translate Zelensky’s peace pitch into real leverage — or will Russia’s rockets drown out the talk of treaties?
