Super Typhoon Ragasa forces evacuations in Philippines


Tuesday, September 23, 2025 -Super Typhoon Ragasa, locally known as Nando, struck northern Luzon with sustained winds of 215 kph (134 mph) and gusts up to 265 kph (165 mph). 

The storm made landfall on Panuitan Island in Cagayan province, triggering widespread evacuations and closures.

More than 8,000 people were evacuated in Cagayan, while over 1,200 were moved to shelters in Apayao. Authorities issued storm surge warnings of waves exceeding three meters, suspended classes and government work across 29 provinces, and halted transport services including flights and ferries.

Power outages were reported in Calayan Island and Apayao as heavy rains and strong winds battered the region. Officials warned residents to remain on high alert for flooding and landslides as the typhoon continues its path.
