Saturday, October 10, 2026 -Yemen’s government forces have claimed that more than 1,400 Houthi fighters were “neutralized” in a 24-hour period, marking a potentially significant escalation in the country’s ongoing conflict. The claim has drawn attention to the intensity of fighting and the risks facing civilians in areas affected by military operations.
However, the figure remains an assertion by the government and should not be treated as independently verified. The term “neutralized” can also cover different outcomes, so further details are needed to establish how many people were killed, injured or otherwise removed from combat.
The military spokesman said the operation, known as Dawn of Yemen, involved more than 2,750 strikes targeting Houthi fortifications, artillery positions, weapons depots, supply facilities and reinforcements.
Government forces also claimed to have damaged or destroyed more than 250 military vehicles and pieces of equipment, while ground troops reportedly broke through defensive lines and recaptured strategically important positions. Saudi-led coalition forces have provided air support as the offensive intensifies across several fronts.
The claims come as Yemen faces a dangerous escalation in fighting, particularly around the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a critical passage for international shipping. Military sources from both sides reported heavy casualties in recent clashes, but independent verification remains difficult because of restricted access and rapidly changing conditions on the ground.
The renewed offensive has also raised concerns about civilian safety, displacement and disruptions to regional trade. With both sides continuing military operations, the coming days could prove critical for Yemen’s security and the wider Red Sea region.
