Police clear Guano beach camp in Ceuta days before royal visit

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 -Spanish police have dismantled the remaining migrant camp at Guano beach in Ceuta, removing hundreds of people just two days before King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia’s scheduled visit to the Spanish enclave in North Africa.

The operation took place on October 11, 2026, with around 400 migrants reportedly still at the site. Officers transported people by bus to temporary reception facilities for identification and processing, while some left for nearby hills before police arrived.

The clearance involved national police, riot units, immigration officers, the Civil Guard and local police. Authorities found several minors at the camp and said they would be separated from adults and transferred to appropriate reception facilities.

After the settlement was cleared, cleaning crews began removing tents, rubbish and debris, while officials prepared to assess the environmental damage. The operation followed a major influx of migrants from Morocco in late July that placed significant pressure on Ceuta’s accommodation and public services.

The eviction highlights the continuing challenges facing Ceuta as authorities struggle to provide accommodation and manage migration along the Spanish-Moroccan border.

Although the removal of the camp clears the beach ahead of the royal visit, it does not resolve the wider issue of where displaced migrants will live or how their applications will be processed. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are scheduled to visit Ceuta on October 13 before travelling to Melilla, bringing renewed attention to migration management, humanitarian needs and border security in the region.
