US-Iran war troop death toll rises to 21

Sunday, October 11, 2026 -The official death toll among US military personnel linked to the war with Iran has risen to 21, following an update to the Pentagon’s casualty database on October 9, 2026.

The revised figures include two additional non-combat deaths, bringing the reported total above the previous count of 19. The update highlights the continuing human cost of the conflict as US forces face mounting risks across the Middle East. According to the Pentagon’s latest figures, 865 American service members have also been wounded.

Among the newly included deaths was Army National Guard Major Sorffly Davius, who died in Kuwait on March 6 following a medical incident. The other reported death involved a Navy service member who died by suicide in September, according to a US official cited by The Washington Post.

The Pentagon has been revising its casualty records as it accounts for personnel deaths and injuries across different operational categories. The changes come amid scrutiny over how the military tracks and publicly reports casualties connected to the conflict. Stars and Stripes

The rising casualty figures underscore the ongoing pressure on US military personnel and the challenges facing officials as the conflict continues. With hundreds of service members wounded, questions about troop protection, medical support and transparent reporting remain urgent.

Accurate casualty records are essential for informing military families, Congress and the public about the human consequences of the war. As tensions between Washington and Tehran persist, further developments could affect regional security, military deployments and diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict.
