Monday, October 5, 2026 - Olivia Rodrigo has spoken out in support of a woman at the center of a high-profile sexual assault case involving Cornell University.
The singer used her Instagram Story to condemn institutions she says protect alleged abusers and declared that she stands with the woman, known publicly as Jane Doe. Rodrigo’s comments come as the case draws renewed national attention following the filing of a civil lawsuit and the reopening of the criminal investigation.
Jane Doe alleges in her lawsuit that she was sexually assaulted by several fraternity members at a Cornell house in October 2024. No criminal charges were initially filed, but the investigation has since been reopened.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor, while Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff has acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and pledged greater transparency and an independent review of the university’s handling of the case.
Rodrigo’s intervention comes as support for Jane Doe has spread across social media, with people using the hashtag #IamJaneDoe to show solidarity and push back against attempts to expose her identity.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the seven former students have not been proven in court. With renewed scrutiny on Cornell and the wider response to sexual assault allegations, Rodrigo’s public statement has added another high-profile voice to calls for accountability and answers.
