Monday, October 12, 2026 -Freddy Brazier has revealed that he secretly used money from the BBC’s Celebrity Race Across the World budget to buy cannabis while filming the show with his father, Jeff Brazier.
The 22-year-old made the admission during an appearance on The Terry Stone Connection podcast on October 12, 2026, explaining that he was struggling emotionally during the 2024 journey from Brazil to Chile. Freddy said the experience became particularly overwhelming around Mother’s Day, when memories of his late mother, Jade Goody, made being filmed difficult to cope with.
Freddy recalled sneaking out of his hotel in Brazil on Mother’s Day and using some of the money provided for the race to purchase 3.5 grams of cannabis. He admitted smoking it on the beach with two people he had met during the trip, despite recognising that his actions could have jeopardised his and his father’s participation in the competition.
Reflecting on the incident, he described his behaviour as selfish and acknowledged that he had not been in the right mental state to take on the challenge. He also revealed that he had previously turned up for filming interviews after smoking cannabis, despite promising his father he would remain sober.
The confession has brought renewed attention to Freddy’s long-running struggles with grief, substance use and mental health. His mother, Jade Goody, died from cervical cancer in 2009 when he was just four years old, and Freddy has previously spoken about the difficulties of growing up without her and his challenges with addiction.
His latest account offers a candid look at the emotional pressures he faced behind the scenes of the reality show, while highlighting the importance of addressing personal struggles before they become overwhelming. Freddy and Jeff finished third in the 2024 series, but his revelations show that the journey involved far more than the challenges viewers saw on screen.
