Monday, September 28, 2026 - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces inflicted 10,660 Russian military casualties — killed and wounded — during the past week across active sectors of the front.
The figure was announced on September 27 following a briefing from Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Mykhailo Drapatyi. Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces also recorded significant battlefield results in the Lyman sector of Donetsk region as part of Operation Vivaldi.
The heaviest fighting is currently reported around Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka and Lyman, while Ukrainian forces are also conducting operations in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine's military had video confirmation associated with the reported losses. The figures, however, remain a Ukrainian battlefield claim and have not been independently verified.
The announcement comes as fighting remains intense despite continuing diplomatic efforts to end the war. Kyiv says its operations around Lyman are aimed at improving its positions and limiting Russia’s ability to mount larger offensive operations.
Russian authorities have not confirmed the casualty figure cited by Zelenskyy, leaving the scale of the reported losses subject to further independent verification.
