Monday, September 28, 2026 - South African police have discovered the body of an 11th woman in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, deepening fears over a string of killings that has shaken local communities.
The latest victim was found in an open field on Sunday after a security company vehicle spotted the body and alerted police. Her identity, age and exact cause of death had not immediately been established.
The latest discovery came just a day after another woman was found dead near a cemetery in the same municipality. Police said that the victim appeared to have been killed with stones, while a man linked to the case was arrested nearly 400 kilometres away.
Four people are currently in custody in connection with cases within the wider series, although investigators have stressed that the killings have not been conclusively linked to one perpetrator.
The growing death toll is intensifying pressure on authorities as residents demand answers and greater protection for women. Eight of the 11 bodies were discovered this month, with several victims found partially or completely undressed and some showing indications of sexual assault.
Police are examining similarities between cases while awaiting forensic results, but officials have cautioned against declaring the deaths the work of a serial killer before evidence establishes a connection.
