X-Files star GILLIAN ANDERSON, 58, comes out as pansexual weeks after revealing teen relationship with 'older girl at school'

Sunday, September 13, 2026 - Gillian Anderson has opened up about her sexuality, revealing that she now more comfortably identifies as pansexual.

The 58-year-old actress, best known for playing Dana Scully in The X-Files, made the disclosure in a recent interview while discussing her understanding of sexuality and relationships.

Anderson said she has become more comfortable using the term after years of reflecting on her experiences and what feels honest to her.

The revelation comes just weeks after Anderson discussed a same-sex relationship she had during high school. She described one of her first relationships as being with an older girl at school and recalled that the relationship felt secretive because of the attitudes surrounding it at the time.

Anderson has previously spoken about relationships with women and, in 2024, publicly questioned whether pansexual or bisexual best described her sexuality.

Anderson's latest comments offer a more direct description of an aspect of her identity she has discussed for years. Her openness comes as she continues to explore themes of sexuality, desire and intimacy through her acting and writing projects, including her new book More

For Anderson, embracing the pansexual label represents a greater sense of confidence in describing herself on her own terms, while continuing a conversation about sexuality that has followed her throughout her career.
