Friday, September 24, 2026 - The White House faced a fresh confrontation with three major news organizations after journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were initially denied entry despite a federal judge ordering their press access restored.
The outlets told the court that the administration had “repeatedly” violated the temporary restraining order issued by U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, prompting them to request an emergency hearing.
Judge Kelly had ordered officials to immediately return, reinstate and restore the journalists’ White House hard passes for 14 days while the legal dispute continues.
The White House said it had begun restoring the credentials early Thursday, with officials stating that the process was underway by the morning. However, reporters from the three organizations said they were still being turned away for several hours, with some credentials reportedly confiscated.
By around midday, journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were allowed back onto the White House grounds, and the judge declined to hold the requested emergency hearing after access was restored.
The broader legal battle remains unresolved, with the outlets challenging the administration’s decision to revoke their credentials and seeking continued access while the court considers the case.
