Monday, September 28, 2026 - UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has urged calm in Northern Ireland as tensions rise around a controversial Orange Order parade in Portadown.
Thousands of protesters gathered along the Garvaghy Road on Sunday after the High Court in Belfast cleared the parade to proceed. The Parades Commission has authorised 35 Orangemen to march silently along the predominantly nationalist road, with strict conditions in place.
The decision has triggered a tense political and community standoff, with Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill among those who joined protesters opposing the march.
