Two UK pilots injured in incident involving military training aircraft

Thursday, September 23, 2026 - Two Royal Air Force pilots are expected to make a full recovery after ejecting from a Hawk T2 training aircraft moments before it crashed near RAF Valley on Anglesey, Wales.

The aircraft came down in the Pencarnisiog area on Wednesday, September 23, after taking off from the RAF base. Both pilots suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment, while authorities reported no wider injuries or significant damage on the ground.

The incident has prompted the RAF to temporarily pause Hawk T1 and T2 flying operations as a precaution while investigators examine what caused the crash.

Emergency services responded to the scene and brought the resulting fire under control. The RAF has confirmed that a formal investigation is now under way, but has not released a cause for the incident.

The crash has drawn attention to RAF Valley, a major training centre for British fast-jet pilots. The immediate priority remains the recovery of the two aircrew and establishing what happened before the aircraft went down.

Until investigators complete their work, the suspension of Hawk operations will remain an important precaution as the RAF assesses the safety of its training fleet.
