Turkish first lady highlights issues concerning humanity in New York engagements

Thursday, September 23, 2026 - Türkiye’s First Lady Emine Erdoğan has used her engagements in New York to push urgent global issues including climate change, child safety in the digital space, education, health and sustainable development.

During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, she participated in discussions on energy transition and met with the spouses of world leaders, including Kenya’s Rachel Ruto, where they exchanged views on health, the environment, education, family and children’s digital safety.

Climate action has remained a major focus of her New York programme. Erdoğan, who chairs the UN Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, has called for changes in consumption patterns and stronger international cooperation, arguing that individual action needs to be supported by effective policies and systems.

She has also highlighted the need to move toward circular economic models as pressure on natural resources and waste management continues to grow.

Her meetings and public engagements place environmental protection and the wellbeing of children and communities at the centre of discussions taking place alongside the UN General Assembly.

With climate pressures, digital risks and sustainable development demanding coordinated responses, Erdoğan’s New York agenda has focused on building international cooperation around issues affecting people today and shaping the future.
