Restaurant owner arrested after chasing dine-and-dashers with gun over $92 bill

Thursday, September 23, 2026 - A Massachusetts restaurant owner has been arrested after allegedly chasing two customers who left without paying a $92.40 bill and confronting them with a firearm.

Nadim Kashouh, 61, owner of Nadim’s Downtown Mediterranean Grill in Springfield, allegedly followed an 18-year-old man and 17-year-old girl after their payment card was declined twice. Police said Kashouh and another employee followed the pair to a nearby convenience store.

According to police, Kashouh allegedly took the girl’s cellphone and demanded that the pair return to the restaurant to settle the bill. Investigators also allege that he struck the girl with his elbow and punched the man.

As a larger group gathered, police said Kashouh pulled out a firearm and pointed it toward the group. Kashouh told authorities that he displayed the weapon in self-defense after someone in the group allegedly claimed to have a gun.

Kashouh was arrested and faces charges including armed robbery with a firearm, assault and battery, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. His firearm and license to carry were seized.

His representative said Kashouh maintains his innocence and that his actions were taken in self-defense, adding that the circumstances will be addressed through the legal process. The two customers are also expected to face criminal complaints related to allegedly defrauding the restaurant.
