Monday, September 14, 2026 - Harsh Sharma, a 30-year-old man originally from Mandi Gobindgarh in Punjab, India, has died after being struck by a semi-trailer near Canberra, Australia.
The crash happened on September 3 on the Federal Highway near Bywong, about 25 kilometres northeast of Canberra. Emergency services responded to the scene, but Sharma died from his injuries.
Sharma lived in Canberra with his wife and two young daughters and worked in the healthcare sector. His death came just three weeks after the birth of his youngest daughter, turning what should have been a joyful period for the family into a devastating loss.
His wife and children are now facing life without him, while relatives in India are also mourning his death.
Friends have launched a fundraising campaign to support Sharma’s family and help with the repatriation of his remains to Punjab. The appeal is seeking financial assistance for his wife and daughters as they deal with the sudden loss.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, while the tragedy has left both the Canberra and Punjab communities mourning a young father whose life was cut short.
