Prince WILLIAM to attend King HARALD's funeral

Sunday, September 6, 2026 - Prince William will represent King Charles at the funeral of Norway’s late King Harald V on September 9 at Oslo Cathedral, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The Prince of Wales will attend on his father’s behalf as the British royal family joins international mourners to mark the death of the Norwegian monarch, who died aged 89 on August 28.

William will be joined by his aunt, the Princess Royal, who is attending in a personal capacity. King Charles is not expected to attend, reflecting established royal protocol under which British monarchs generally send another senior royal to represent them at funerals of fellow heads of state.

William has previously carried out a similar role at major international occasions, making his presence in Oslo a significant diplomatic and royal engagement.

The funeral comes as Norway enters a major royal transition following Harald’s death and the accession of his son, King Haakon VIII.

With Queen Sonja and other members of the Norwegian royal family expected to attend, Wednesday’s ceremony is set to draw international attention as European royals gather in Oslo. William’s appearance will also put the Prince of Wales firmly in the spotlight as he continues taking on high-profile duties on behalf of the British monarchy.
