Tuesday, September 8, 2026 - Pamela Anderson has opened up about one of the most frightening moments of her life, revealing that a doctor once told her she had around 10 years to live after she was diagnosed with hepatitis C.
Speaking at the amfAR Gala in Venice, where she received the organisation’s Award of Courage, the actress described the diagnosis as a “death sentence” and said the news completely changed the way she viewed her future.
Anderson said her greatest fear was not dying herself, but what would happen to her young sons, Brandon and Dylan. She explained that the diagnosis affected many of her decisions and left her struggling with feelings of shame and guilt for years.
She was diagnosed after contracting hepatitis C through shared tattoo needles with her former husband, Tommy Lee, and later revealed that paying for treatment took almost everything she had financially.
The actress eventually received successful treatment and announced in 2015 that she was free of hepatitis C. Looking back at the experience, Anderson says the ordeal continues to shape her, but she now sees herself as a survivor rather than a victim.
Her emotional disclosure in Venice has renewed attention on her remarkable recovery and the impact that a devastating diagnosis can have long after the immediate health crisis has passed.
