Monday, September 14, 2026 - More than 2,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti as renewed fighting drives civilians from their homes, according to the UN migration agency.
The latest arrivals crossed the Gulf of Aden seeking safety as violence intensified along Yemen’s western coast, adding fresh pressure to an already worsening humanitarian emergency.
The crisis is expanding rapidly inside Yemen. More than 82,000 people have reportedly been displaced since the beginning of September, with Taiz and Lahj among the hardest-hit areas.
Families are arriving with limited belongings and facing uncertain access to food, water and shelter as fighting continues to disrupt communities.
The growing movement across the Gulf of Aden is also putting pressure on Djibouti, which is receiving people escaping the conflict while regional tensions remain high.
The situation demands urgent humanitarian support as more civilians could be forced to flee if the fighting continues to escalate. For Yemenis caught in the violence, the immediate priority is simple: finding safety before the next wave of displacement begins.
