Thursday, September 23, 2026 - Italian authorities have uncovered €3.2 million—more than $3.6 million—in cash concealed inside the walls, floors and furniture of a property in Caivano, near Naples, in a major operation targeting an alleged organized crime network.
The money was reportedly stored in tightly packed bundles of €50 notes, many wrapped in plastic and hidden behind wall and floor coverings. Police also seized 11 luxury watches valued at more than €127,000, along with weapons and items linked to drug trafficking.
The discovery came during an investigation into an alleged criminal organization linked by investigators to the Angelino clan, which operates in Caivano and Casoria. Authorities targeted 34 suspects, with 23 ordered into custody and 11 placed under house arrest.
Investigators say the group was involved in alleged drug trafficking and extortion, while evidence from cooperating witnesses helped police locate the concealed cash.
The scale of the seizure is drawing fresh attention to the financial reach of organized crime in the Naples area. Investigators said the operation also uncovered evidence of a structured drug-selling network, including regular supplies, payment schedules and efforts to keep operations within family circles.
The investigation covers activity from 2021 through July 2025, while the latest arrests and seizures mark a significant development in the authorities' ongoing crackdown.
