Monday, September 21, 2026 - Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed new details about how she and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin approached their divorce, saying they were determined to remain a family even after their marriage ended.
Speaking on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Paltrow explained that their priority was protecting their two children, Apple and Moses, from the tension she had seen in other divorced families.
Paltrow said she and Martin sought help from a therapist, who introduced the concept that became known as “conscious uncoupling.” Rather than allowing the end of their relationship to divide the family, they committed to putting their children first and maintaining family traditions.
Paltrow recalled that they even held Sunday brunches together after moving from London to Los Angeles, despite moments when emotions between them became tense.
The actress says the approach was not always easy, but the commitment helped them maintain a close family relationship after their divorce. Paltrow and Martin’s marriage ended legally in 2016, and both have since moved forward with other relationships, while continuing to share their family connection.
Their experience is again attracting attention after Paltrow revisited the story and explained the personal reasoning behind one of Hollywood’s most widely discussed breakups.
