Wednesday, September 23, 2026 - BBC Radio Wales presenter Roy Noble has announced that he will step away from his Sunday programme in March 2027, bringing his time with the BBC to 46 years.
The 83-year-old broadcaster shared the news in an emotional letter to listeners, saying he had reached a point where it felt right to begin a new chapter.
Noble also referred to “the odd hiccup in health” as one of the signals behind his decision, but he did not disclose a specific medical condition. He stressed that his departure is not an immediate goodbye, with several months still ahead for programmes, memories and celebrations.
He has also confirmed plans to return in an ambassadorial role when BBC Radio Wales marks its 50th anniversary in 2028.
The announcement has already prompted an outpouring of support from listeners and public figures, including singer Katherine Jenkins.
Noble’s final programme is now set for March 2027, marking the end of one of the longest-running broadcasting careers still active at BBC Radio Wales.
