Friday, August 14, 2026 -Ukrainian drones have struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery in Russia’s Bashkortostan region, igniting a fire at one of the country’s major oil and petrochemical complexes.
The facility is located roughly 1,300 kilometers—about 800 miles—from Ukraine’s border, underscoring Kyiv’s growing ability to hit strategic targets deep inside Russian territory. Ukrainian military officials said the strike was part of an expanding campaign against Russia’s oil infrastructure.
The attack was the fourth strike on Russian oil infrastructure in just three days, according to Ukrainian officials, as Kyiv seeks to disrupt a sector that provides crucial revenue for Moscow’s war effort.
The Salavat complex can process up to 74 million barrels of oil annually and produces fuels and petrochemical products. Russia’s regional authorities confirmed a drone attack caused a fire in an industrial area and reported two civilian injuries.
The escalating strikes are putting Russia’s energy network under growing pressure and could create wider consequences if disruptions continue. Ukraine has increasingly targeted refineries and other oil facilities far from the battlefield, aiming to reduce fuel production and weaken Moscow’s ability to finance its military campaign.
With attacks now reaching hundreds of miles inside Russia, the latest strike signals that distance is becoming less of a shield for critical Russian infrastructure.
